Safety and health

Hiking in the mid-mountains is still a physical activity in a natural environment. A few health details, shared in advance, allow your leader to adapt the pace and to act quickly if needed. Here are the two documents to prepare before every outing, along with our recommendations.

To keep on you

Individual medical form

To be filled in and kept on you during the outing. Strictly confidential, it records your medical history, allergies, treatments and emergency contact, and is consulted only in the event of an incident.

To show to your leader

Physical activity readiness questionnaire (Q-AAP)

To read, date and sign, then show to your leader before departure. If an answer prompts you to seek advice, arrange a medical opinion before the outing.

Health recommendations before you set off

  • Tell us in advance about any particular condition: heart problem, asthma, diabetes, allergy, pregnancy, recent injury or ongoing treatment.
  • If you are in any doubt about your fitness, or if the Q-AAP indicates it, ask your doctor for advice before the outing.
  • Choose an outing suited to your level: the difficulty and the ascent are given for each hike, and you are welcome to ask us.
  • Bring your personal medication (inhaler, heart medication, auto-injector in case of severe allergy) and tell your leader where it is.

On the day of the outing

  • Walking boots that support the ankle, clothing suited to the weather and a layered system.
  • Enough water and energy snacks; sun protection and a hat.
  • Work at your own pace and drink regularly; report any discomfort, pain or dizziness to your leader immediately.
  • Your qualified Mountain Leader (Accompagnateur en Moyenne Montagne), trained by experts, carries a first aid kit and knows the alert procedures.

Confidentiality of your data

The medical form stays in your possession: WhyTrek does not collect it and does not keep it. It should be stowed in the top pocket of your rucksack and available in an emergency. For any question, see our FAQ or contact us.
