It is usually the fear of the logistics that makes people give up. Here, point by point, is why a day outdoors is far simpler to organise than it looks.

When I talk to managers who would like to take their team outdoors, the appetite is almost always there. What holds them back is a series of very concrete worries. What if some of them cannot keep up. What if it rains. Is it risky. What does it cost. These are fair questions, and I answer them one by one, because in practice a team day in the mountains is a good deal less complicated to organise than a conventional trip.

Very different ability levels in the team

This is the number one worry, and the easiest to dispel. A team day is not an athletic performance. I choose accessible routes, at a pace everyone can hold, including people who never walk. We adapt the distance and the ascent to the reality of the group, not the other way round. The fittest are not bored, the least sporty do not suffer, and the mutual help that comes out of those differences is precisely part of what bonds the team. Nobody is left behind, and it is my job to see to that.

The weather, the ghost that makes people give up

Fear of rain gets a lot of plans cancelled before they even start. Yet it can be managed. We set the outing in a favourable season, we watch the forecast closely, and we always have a fallback. Depending on the case, we shift the date, shorten the route, or switch to a more sheltered format. Good organisation does not abolish the weather, it makes sure the weather never spoils the day. In practice it is very rare to have to call the whole thing off.

Safety and guiding

Handing your team over to someone for a day outdoors takes trust, and that is normal. My job is precisely to guide groups in the mid-mountains in complete safety. I know the terrain, I watch the group constantly, I adjust to the conditions and I carry the equipment needed. You have nothing to manage on that front. Your only task is to enjoy the day with your people, not to count heads or keep an eye on the path.

The budget

A day of mountain guiding for a company starts at around €600, plus any associated services depending on the format chosen. It is a controlled budget, often comparable to an indoor activity for a group, for a result that lasts well beyond the day itself. Everything is worked out to measure and set out clearly in advance, with no surprises. You know exactly what you are booking before you commit.

Lunch, large groups, the details

That leaves the practical questions that tend to nag. Where do we eat, how do we handle a large group, is any special kit needed. Here too, everything is settled in advance according to your format. Lunch can be a packed picnic, a meal at a partner venue or a relaxed moment out in the open, depending on what you want and your budget. For larger headcounts, we scale the guiding accordingly, so that safety and the quality of the experience stay the same for everyone. None of these points is an obstacle, they are parameters we settle together once the objective is set. Nothing is left to chance, and nothing rests on your shoulders.

What you do not have to do

Fundamentally, most of the logistics rest on me. The choice of route, adapting to the group, safety, the timing, the weather plan. On your side, all you need to do is give me your objective, your headcount and a range of dates. The rest is built together, simply. Many managers are surprised by how quickly the plan comes together once that first conversation is out of the way.
